Comb-Back Armchair

All the spindles in the backs of comb-back chairs are similar in size and shape and are
capped with a horizontal crest rail which gives the back a comb like form and accounts
for their name. The 1st American-made Windsor Chairs were comb backed arm chairs
produced in Philadelphia around 1725. The large well saddled seat, tall wrap
around  back supporting spindles, and supporting arm rail, along with good seat
height and well splayed legs, contributed to the comfort of the Philadelphia comb-back
arm chairs. These are perhaps the most comfortable of all the Windsor forms.
